What Does A Mystery Shopper Do?

A mystery shopper receives an assignment for a “shop”, (a scheduled visit to a business to evaluate customer service, product quality etc…) There are different types of “Shops” Merchandising Integrity, Store Standards, Competitor Performance Comparison, Competitor Price Comparison, Associate Integrity, and Associate Morale.

For example, you might be asked to evaluate a restaurant by describing friendliness of staff, cleanliness of table, wait time, cleanliness of bathrooms and quality of meal. Keep in mind that while observing the quality of service, you must remain undetected as a mystery shopper. You will pose as a typical customer. The staff should not suspect that you are evaluating their service. Then you provide an objective written evaluation of your experience after leaving the establishment.
