Yesterday I posted tips for mystery shopping with young children. These are tips for mystery shopping with older children. Hope it helps you have a fun shopping experience.

• Do not tell children you are secret shopping that restaurant. You never know what is going to come out of their mouths!
• Keep an age appropriate Art Caddy. This might include crayons, markers, color book, stickers, etc. As my son got older, he enjoyed activity books more than color books, the variety of activities kept him more busy.
• Bring a sweater or light jacket. Some restaurants keep the Air Conditioner very low. When kids get cold, they get fidgety.
• Don’t go during their scheduled nap time when they tend to be more grouchy.
• Picture book to look at or read.
• Limit sugary and caffeine loaded drinks. We have a rule that when eating out we only order water.
• Chose your shops carefully, you might not want to accept a shop for a seafood restaurant if all of your children hate seafood.
• Order what you know they like to eat. This might not be the time to try something new. If you choose something they don’t like they tend to be ready to leave before you have finished eating.

Tips For Secret Shopping With Young Children & Babies In Restaurants

The following information is based on my experience as a mother of three children. Twins Mary-Margaret and Madeline almost 3 and Drew 10 years old. These tricks have worked well for our family and hopefully they will work well for yours too. One of the purposes of secret shopping is to not only make a little income for your family but to also enjoy the benefits of the shop…the meal! If you can divert your children’s attention, you’ll have a good chance at a peaceful meal. It is also important to be able to pay attention to the details of the service you receive for the reports.

Young Children and Babies

· Mobil or activity toy that attaches to the car seat handle
· Blanket, change of clothes, diapers and wet wipes
· Food and Snacks: Pre mixed bottles, Jars of Food and baby spoons, Gold Fish, Animal Cookies.

Applying To Become A Secret Shopper

Most companies that use online forms will ask you the same information, the best way to get hired is to be prepared with your standard answers. Most companies are going to ask specific demographic information because that is what their clients are targeting Gender, Household income range, education level, marital status. Additionally, they will also ask the usual, name, address, telephone numbers, Additionally, they ask narrative questions such as:

· What is your work experience?

· Have you done mystery shopping before?

· Why would you make a good mystery shopper?

· Give an example of one of your most memorable shopping experiences.

· List the mystery shopping and/or market research companies (NOT THEIR CLIENTS) that you've contracted with.

· What is the Largest City Near You?

· List the counties that you would be willing to shop.

· List the zip codes you would be willing to shop.

· Provide a minimum of two full paragraphs describing your last casual or fine dining restaurant experience.

· What type of computer do you have access to?

Be sure to read the instructions carefully, some companies will instruct you to complete the application in all capital letter or lower case letters to see if you can follow instructions. They also ask the narrative questions to evaluate your writing skills. Be sure to watch your spelling, and punctuation. Be sure to include under qualifications any equipment you have that will help you be a reliable shopper (transportation, fax machine, lap top computer, camera, email). You might also want to mention that you are available for last minute shops.

A mystery shopper receives an assignment for a “shop”, (a scheduled visit to a business to evaluate customer service, product quality etc…) There are different types of “Shops” Merchandising Integrity, Store Standards, Competitor Performance Comparison, Competitor Price Comparison, Associate Integrity, and Associate Morale.
